Since becoming a mom, I’ve spent a fair amount of time analyzing and evaluating my wardrobe.  Between physical changes (hahaha!) and mental changes, I feel like having a baby affects all (and I mean ALL) aspects of our lives.  I used to feel like I had a handle on my personal style, but after my LB (a.k.a. Little Bear) was born, it all went out the window.  A piece of clothing that used to be a staple has since found it’s way to the “donation” pile, and to fill in the gaps in my closet, I’ve done quite a bit of research on building a “capsule” wardrobe.  For those that aren’t familiar with this term, it’s simply an entire wardrobe built on a few (20 or less) items of clothing.  I didn’t have (as most of us don’t), the cash to buy an entire new wardrobe so I wanted a few key pieces that are extremely versatile and could be worn season to season.

The outfit I’m wearing today is inspired by the unseasonably cool temperatures we’re having right now.  It was the perfect outfit for a “bring-your-family” type meeting at the state park close by.  It was comfortable, warm enough and mom-friendly.  When I say mom friendly, I mean: able to bend over to change a diaper without having to pull-up your jeans 5x, chase around and pick-up a busy toddler without showing cleavage, and get sneezed on, coughed on and drooled on (it wipes right off this jacket!).

So, here’s what I’m wearing (more details below):

  • Express Black (Minus the) Leather Jacket
  • Target white knit button up Henley shirt
  • Fossil Bi-color Satchel
  • White House Black Market Skinny Jean
  • Ariat Singsong boots

As I said before I was looking for gaps in my current wardrobe, and one key item I found missing from my closet was a black jacket.  I really liked the look of leather and this one I found at Express on sale and it suited my style.  It’s one of their popular styles, they carry it in several colors (blush, taupe, beige, brown, etc.) and keep bringing it back season after season.  This Target button-up Henley shirt is super comfortable and at only $9, a total steal!  It’s one of those items I wish I could get it in every color.  The only item in this outfit that has been in my closet for years is this handbage.  This black/brown Fossil satchel handbag is one of those items that goes with 90% of everything I own and was one of my favorite purchases of all time.  Although this one is no longer available, they do have some similar styles, and to be honest, I feel that a handbag is a very personal item – everyone needs to find the “perfect” bag that suits their personality.

On to my favorite part of this entire outfit…these jeans are OMG! my favorite pair I own.  Typically, when buying jeans, I stay with “tried and true”, but the last time I was shopping and in serious need of new jeans I stumbled upon these.  I ran into an old college classmate who is a manager at the WHBM, and after a few minutes of chit-chat about what is going on in our lives, she said “Dang girl, you’ve got curves!” HAHAHA! Now usually, this presents a huge problem for finding jeans, but she handed me this pair and said, you’re going to love these. WELL, she was right, I immediately fell in love with them.  They are high-waisted but actually fit my waist AND curvy hips…not to mention are so super soft, stylish and the cut is versatile enough to be worn Spring, Summer (cuffed with sandals), Fall (as seen with boots) and Winter.  These are the ultimate Mom-jeans!!  Finally the boots are Ariat Singsong boots in wood, and what makes them perfect is that they are on sale right now! My husband has been buying Ariat boots for years and now I have a pair of my own.  They are incredibly comfy and such high quality and I know these boots are a great investment that will last me many years.
