Chai Spice Sugar Cookies

As fall transitions into colder weather (I won’t say the “W” word), I find myself digging out my baking supplies and cranking up the oven. There is just something about this time of year that really says “baking weather”. It’s a huge bonus that my 2.5 (almost 3 year-old) loves to help me bake anything, especially cookies.
I’m sharing an adaptation of my favorite sugar cookie recipe. The addition of chai spices will warm anyone up from the inside out… they are delightful! One of my favorite Starbucks drinks will always be a chai spice latte, the perfect combination of creaminess, cardamom, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, ginger, and a hint of pepper. For me it is everything I love about the holidays in one sip. While this recipe can be easily made with a pre-mixed (store bought) Chai spice, I had all these spices already in my cabinet so I mixed my own.

I’m so thankful for a safe harvest season and that it is finally over! Some {unseasonal} rainy weather made it a challenge to be out in the fields, and the only thing worse than a wet, cold Fall is a farmer stuck inside because of the weather! 😉

- 1 Tbsp Cinnamon, ground
- 1 Tbsp Ginger, ground
- 1/2 Tbsp Cardamom
- 1/2 Tbsp Cloves, ground
- 1/2 Tbsp Nutmeg, ground
- 1/4 tsp Black Pepper
Ingredients
Chai Spice Blend
Chai Glaze

- Mix Chai Spice blend in a small bowl and set aside.
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Cream butter and sugar with an electric mixer until soft.
- Add egg and vanilla and mix til blended.
- Mix dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, salt, and chai spice blend), then add to butter mixture.
- Use cookie scooper to make approx. 1" balls. Roll in sugar/chai spice blend then place on cookie sheet.
- Once cooled, mix Chai Spice Glaze ingredients to desired consistency and flavor. Drizzle over cookies.
