Fall Photo Shoot

Fall Photo Shoot

Harvest is finally done…whew! We made it through, and are taking a {very} little time to relax before we start knocking things off our “to-do list” that has been piling up for the past couple months.  I’m still working on checking things off my fall bucket list (thus the “relaxing” part), even though it feels like winter outside right now.  And as wonderful as this time of year is, I’m starting to stress over the holidays, and starting to feel a little behind.  My family is celebrating Christmas over Thanksgiving, because that’s when we will all be together, but that means I’m running short on time to get my Christmas shopping done.  Today I’m taking a break from all the online Christmas shopping and “list-making” I’ve been consumed by, and stepping back into “Fall”.

I realized today that I haven’t kept up on taking monthly (or even seasonal) pictures of LB lately, and what better time to do so, than surrounded by the rich, beautiful colors of fall.  I set up this autumn photo shoot set in front of our grainery (aka a little shed attached to our big red barn). I love the colors of this spot because the grainery still has the original wood with weathered red paint on it. It was on the north side of the barn, so it’s out of the wind!  And to complement the colors here, the outfit I picked out for LB was a maroon plaid shirt, a golden brown colored vest and similar pants that have the same warm hues as the fall photo set.

I got some lovely practice shots with the lighting to test it out before adding LB to it, but unfortunately by the time we got him into the set after a short nap, we had lost some of the golden sunlight (thanks a lot, Daylight Savings Time!).  Nevertheless, it was a fun project for the day and we did manage to get a couple cute photos.  I had my husband help with LB while I stayed behind the camera snapping away for the 30 seconds or so that he managed to sit still.  Almost-two seems to be a hard age for sitting still, especially when we’re outside and there are so many other things to do!  Somedays it’s a struggle for him to keep pants on, so asking LB to sit still in a chair outside for more than a few seconds is really pushing my limits!

For the pictures, I used a Canon EOS T5i camera. I’m still getting accustomed to this camera but so far I have been loving getting to use it for our family photo ops.  Like anything, practice and real-world experience teaches you so many things and it is especially true when it comes to photography.  Even with almost 35 photos to choose from, there was maybe 3 or 4 “good ones” where we managed to capture a smile, the photo was clear and LB was mostly looking at the camera.

Hopefully, we will get a couple more opportunities for picture taking this fall.  I’m anxiously awaiting a 50-60 degree day so that we can enjoy the country and being surrounded so much beauty!  For now, here are the top pictures from today’s photo shoot.  It will be nice to have some pictures to hand out to family over the holidays.  I know some amazing moms who are really good about doing kid/school pictures each year and handing them out to everyone, but unfortunately I am not one of them.  However, I am doing my best to take baby steps [with my baby] to get better at this whole “mom-thing”.  Thanks for joining me on the journey.

Xoxo!
